History of the firm
E H Tebbutt & Sons has been providing quality legal services to clients for over 100 years. The firm was established in 1910 by Ernest Henry Tebbutt, who was subsequently joined by his sons William Alston Tebbutt in 1923 and Roy Elliott Tebbutt in 1926.
Roy Tebbutt's son H W (Peter) Tebbutt joined the firm in 1953 and retired as a consultant in 2005. The firm has always practised in the vicinity of Martin Place being sited at 28 Martin Place until 1967 and then 82 Pitt Street until 1982.
The firm moved to its present building at 115 Pitt Street in 1982 and occupied level 15 for nearly 25 years. In September 2006 the firm moved to premises on level 16.
In March 2010 the Law Society Journal published an article celebrating E. H. Tebbutt & Sons 100 year anniversary.
The firm today
Today the firm remains very much in the manner in which it was founded, that is reflective of being a traditional family orientated type firm, but now provides a wider area of expertise.

John was admitted as a solicitor in 1967. He merged his then practice with the firm in 1984. John's principal areas of practice are Conveyancing, Wills, and Succession Act Claims both for and against deceased estates. He has acted for many years for clients of NSW Trustee & Guardian (formerly the Protective Commissioner) in respect of such applications and continues to act for them in various matters. John had been active in cricket circles and in 2015 was elected a life member of St George District Cricket Club.
Jennifer Gordon completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavioural Science at Macquarie University in 1985 and a Bachelor of Law at University of Technology in 1992. Jennifer was admitted as a solicitor in July 1992 and joined the firm in that year. Jennifer has practiced extensively in Family Law throughout her career including divorce, property settlements, spousal maintenance, parenting matters and child support. Jennifer also has considerable experience in other areas of Law including Wills and Probate. Jennifer tailors her approach to achieve the best possible outcome for her client.
Michael was admitted as a solicitor in 1985 and joined the firm in the same year. Michael has developed a wide general practice particularly in Conveyancing both residential and commercial, Will drafting, Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Michael has been involved in sport all his life and still actively participates in both baseball and soccer as well as having served as an administrator and coach in both sports.
Robert Kirby was admitted as a solicitor in 1977. He merged his then firm of McMahon Bodors with the firm in 1995. Robert's father had been a solicitor for 50 years and his firm of E. J. Kirby & Company was merged with the firm in 2000. Robert practises particularly in Conveyancing both residential and commercial, Commercial Leasing and Commercial Matters including Commercial Litigation and Estate Planning & Estate Administration. Robert is actively involved in community work with a number of different organizations. He has been a member of the Drummoyne Rotary Club for over 30 years. He has served as a Director and President of the Western Suburbs Soccer Sports & Community Club Limited trading as Canada Bay Club and has been involved for in excess of 25 years on the Board of a local Aged Care Facility. Robert is an active Member of the Order of Malta serving on their National and State Executive and participating particularly with Gorman House and Homeless Coats Project.
Nyree has worked in the legal field since 1989. She obtained a Bachelor of Law from University of Technology in 1996 and was admitted as a solicitor in the same year. Nyree joined the firm in September 2003. Nyree 's principal area of practice is Family Law, including divorce, property settlements, parenting arrangements and relocation cases for marital, defacto and same-sex relationships. Nyree also undertakes general litigation work. Nyree is a longstanding volunteer solicitor at the Inner City Legal Centre in Darlinghurst. Nyree recognises that Court proceedings can have significant financial and psychological impact on clients. Nyree actively approaches her matters on the basis that clients have differing issues that require tailor made solutions and she aims to negotiate such solutions before proceeding to Court.
Margaret completed a Bachelor of Laws with honours and a Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie University. She is keen to assist our clients with their personal conveyancing and estate administration. Tebbutts was a natural fit for Margaret, she is trusted with our new and established clients, and takes a friendly and efficient approach to legal service.
George Gordon graduated as a Bachelor of Law from the University of Sydney in April 1956. He was admitted as a solicitor in May 1957. George joined the firm in 1956 and was the managing partner of the firm for over 20 years. He has worked mainly in the areas of Property, Wills, Estate Planning and Probate. He retired from the partnership in December 2006 but continues as a consultant to the firm. George has a particular interest in classical music and was a foundation member of the Opera and Arts Support Group in 1991.
